More Oil Discovered in Viet Nam’s Mekong Basin

Korean firm SK Innovation has found another oil field in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Basin in southern Viet Nam.

News reports last Friday said SK Innovation discovered a layer of oil measuring 116 meters in thickness in Lac Da Trang, near the area where it has initiated commercial oil production. The company has mining rights in the area together with United States crude oil producer Murphy and Viet Nam's state-owned oil firm PVEP.

SK Innovation said it needs to evaluate the area further to determine commercial viability.

Cuu Long Basin is Viet Nam’s most important petroleum-producing basin.
