Cambodia, Vietnam to collaborate in combating COVID-19 [2]

Business as usual between Cambodia, Vietnam despite Covid-19 [3]

Cambodia and Viet Nam will continue to work together to ensure bilateral trade continues amidst border control measures implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the two countries have enforced stricter travel restrictions to tourists passing through their borders, Cambodia and Viet Nam remain open to the exchange of goods.

In a phone call [2], Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc pledged to join hands in fighting COVID-19. They also reiterated the call to maintain trade activities and ease the cross-border trade of goods.

Earlier, the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation proposed in a statement  [4]that the two countries work together to facilitate and ensure that the transport of goods across the common border be carried out without disruption.

Cambodia and Viet Nam aim to achieve $5 billion (RM22.2 billion) in trade by the end of the year.

Furthermore, Viet Nam’s Prime Minister offered to send medical experts to Cambodia if requested. He also said Viet Nam is prepared to coordinate with Cambodia in repatriating Cambodian citizens who have been quarantined in Viet Nam for COVID-19 if they choose to.

The two leaders committed to provide citizen protection and assistance to immigrant Cambodian and Vietnamese communities through their representative agencies.
