Project Description
The project will improve connectivity in the Mekong Delta Region and provide efficient access from Ho Chi Minh City to the Southern Coastal Region through construction of a section of the Second Southern Highway (SSH) comprising two cable-stayed bridges across the Mekong River, one at Cao Lanh and the other at Vam Cong, and associated roads. The project is located on the boundaries of An Giang, Can Tho, and Dong Thap provinces to the west of the Mekong Delta Region. The bridges will be constructed to six-lane carriageway standard, with two lanes initially reserved for motorcycle traffic. The interconnecting road will be constructed to four-lane standard, to be widened to six-lane standard in the future. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Australia are proposed to finance the Cao Lanh bridge and the interconnecting road, and the Government of Korea to provide parallel financing for the Vam Cong bridge and its associated road works.
Progress (as of March 2021)
Ongoing. Component 1&2,3 (Cao Lanh Bridge and the connecting route Cao Lanh - Vam Cong, Vam Cong bridge): already completed. For addition component (Connecting route NH91 and Long Xuyen bypass): Approved Land acquisition policy, Local authority are implementing payment. Technical Design: Choosing consultant according to ADB regulations.
