Project Description

The project will finance improvement of international and national transport connectivity of underdeveloped provinces of Vietnam by improving accessibility to GMS corridors. The project aims to expand the benefits of the GMS corridors to the northwestern provinces, where high poverty incidence is reported, by enhancing the road connectivity between the Noi Bai-Lao Cai Expressway and the provinces of Lao Cai, Lai Chau and Yen Bai through rehabilitation of National Highway (NH) 279 and NH32 and upgrading of Provincial Road (PR)175 to an NH.




Progress (as of March 2021)

Ongoing. ADB loan financing approved on 11 December 2018. Technical design is being implemented. Regarding the preparation for the bidding of construction packages, ADB already agreed with MOT to adjust procurement method from ICB to NCB.

  • The impact will be improved economic, sociocultural and environmental development in project area, contributing to making Viet Nam a modern industrial country. The outcome will be enhanced national road connectivity to GMS corridors in Viet Nam. The expected outputs are: (i) improved national highways in Quang Nam, Lai Chau and Yen Bai provinces; (ii) the strengthened road asset management; and (iii) the improved road safety in project communes.
