The Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Economic Cooperation Program supports the implementation of high-priority regional projects. Since 1992, it has mobilized over $21 billion for projects in agriculture, energy, environment, health and human resource development, information and communication technology, tourism, transport, transport and trade facilitation, and urban development.
The GMS Strategic Framework for 2012–2022 expands the concept of economic corridor development in the subregion. Furthering investments in transport and transit routes, economic corridor development includes (i) urban development to widen the corridor space for connecting markets and exploiting agglomeration effects; (ii) development of special economic zones and industrial parks at the borders and along corridors as vehicles for private sector investment; and (iii) development of transport and logistics services to enhance links with trade gateways and make markets function more efficiently.
Note: Information about proposed projects is tentative and indicative.
