The 20th Annual Meeting of the Greater Mekong Subregion Working Group on Environment (WGE AM20) was chaired by Mr. Hla Maung Thein, Deputy Director General, Environmental Conservation Department, Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry (MOECAF), Myanmar, and co-chaired by Mr. Sanath Ranawana, Senior Natural Resources Management Specialist, Asian Development Bank (ADB).

This is the summary of proceedings from the 11th Meeting of the Greater Mekong Subregion Working Group on Agriculture held on 26 March 2014 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

NAY PYI TAW, MYANMAR (25 March 2014) – Member countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion face losing recent development gains unless they invest more to secure natural resource stocks, senior officials from the six countries heard at a meeting in Myanmar today.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES (24 March 2014) – The People’s Republic of China will expand biodiversity corridors to link 10 nature reserves in the southwestern corner of the country – including critical habitat for the Cao Vit gibbon, one of the rarest apes in the world – following workshops conducted as part of the Greater Mekong Subregion’s Core Environment Program.

KUNMING, PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA (22 March 2014) – Asian Development Bank President Takehiko Nakao met with Yunnan Governor Li Jiheng and discussed the province's development challenges and potential during a three-day visit to the People’s Republic of China. 

At the First GMS Summit, leaders of the six Mekong countries issued a joint declaration, entitled "Making it Happen: A Common Strategy on Cooperation for Growth, Equity and Prosperity in the Greater Mekong Subregion" in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on 3 November 2002.

On 31 January 2014, the Asian Development Bank's Board of Directors agreed to bring the GMS: Rehabilitation of the Railway in Cambodia Project into full compliance with its safeguard policies following a report by ADB’s Compliance Review Panel.

VIENTIANE, LAO PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC (12 December 2013) – Member countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion have agreed to draw up a $50 billion pipeline of potential projects under a new Regional Investment Framework, including investments in non-traditional areas like railways and multisector projects to be made over the next decade.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES (11 December 2013) – A new bridge straddling the Mekong River between Thailand and Lao People’s Democratic Republic is open for business, signaling completion of physical works along one of the Greater Mekong Subregion’s most critical economic corridors.
